(If you want to see pictures of Russian Metro - most beautiful subway system in the world, please, look at this article!)
Hello,
I have never talked about this subject, nor about the Metro in Russia. I was drinking my morning cup of coffee and was thinking about that my wife came home a little upset yesterday. Now Svet just does not get upset at the world, she is very calm and peaceful. So when she says that she saw something that upset her and she took pictures! I listened,(yes I actually listen).
So to help understand, lets look at the pictures first.
1st picture: Elder Babushka having to stand on metro.
2nd picture: First 3 of the 6 much younger men sitting and not offering their seat.
3rd picture: Second 3 of the 6 younger men in the same row.
As you can see they are trying to hide their faces and look the other way. Svet got a little bit peeved at this display of inconsideration.
In Russia, The children and elderly are to be given seats. The men and younger women should stand when possible. My wife says that she is a younger woman, so she will stand most times when Metro is crowded.
These men know that they should get up, but they really do not care! That is what upset my wife.
I thought about this this morning and decided to post an article about it.
I think that on public transport that men, if able should give their seat to older women(babushkas), children, Mothers and anyone else that seems to have problems standing. I was raised to be polite and considerate.
What makes this even more important is that young women in Russia will get up and give their seat to elderly and children much more than men.(That makes us men look really bad)
So are men becoming inconsiderate? Do you see this where you live?
Kyle

Hi, darling!
Thank you very much! You made really very good article on my pictures.
I don't know... when I see such "men" I ask myself if they are men or something?..
The truth is that I make these pictures just to show them that I consider them like "something" to get them embarrassed. Of course, nobody of them admitted that was a little bit wrong and offered his sit. But I think they will remember this strange event in metro (when they were taken by camera) and I think maybe not all but some of them can change himself in future...
Really, since I have my camera /Thank my Bear ;)/ I want take picture of people and situations /that is not easy for me... but it was my first experience ;)/
Svetlana.
Svet- Great pictures! Way to get the men ... if we can call them that! Thanks for taking the pictures, maybe those numb-skulls will think twice!
Kyle-You I almost posted an article Sunday about this very problem. Rude young men. Just Sunday I went to a musical, Wizard of Oz with Dickens and her mother. As we were leaving , walking down the handicap ramp, this couple, led by this VERY rude yound man, nearly knocked Dickens down as they rushed past them up the ramp. Dickens was holding onto her mother, who is still quite frail. I completely lost my temper and shouted, "Hey buddy, watch it, this is the handi-cap ramp you know!" He says, "My leg hurts a******!" Now I am furious, there are kids EVERYWHERE and this guys is LITERALLY knocking down old ladies and cursing! I decided right then and there that you are either "raised right," or you aren't! That is just good manners and I was just raised to use good manners and treat people with respect. Man oh man that made me angry! Great post! Take care bud!
Hey Barrett,
"I decided right then and there that you are either "raised right," or you aren't! That is just good manners and I was just raised to use good manners and treat people with respect."
I say, "Amen" to that quote.
Have a great weekend!
Kyle
Way to go, Svet! I love your spunky attempt to get these men to wake up. I know younger people are tired too and just want to sit, but older people do have it harder to maintain balance and may have other health issues. It is poetic justice that people as far away as America are seeing these faces and saying, "Shame, shame." Of course, we have the same problem here.
I am enjoying your postings.
Hi Sheilia!
Happy to hear from you!
Really, I never mind to see men who sit in metro (if they are like 30% - two on the bench). But in this case (when they were 100%)I was a bit shocked! And of course that's a very rare event (6 men in the row) so I was lucky to get such pictures ;).
I also think that this is a problem the world over, especially with a younger generation.
Thanks for stopping by.
Best wishes.
Svet.
Unfortunately we have the same problem here in England Svet. I know how you feel. I get upset when I see this too. Like you I was always brought up that it was polite and good manners to give up your seat to an older or less able bodied person. Great blog by the way.
Hi Naomi!
Thank you for coming by!
Best Wishes!
Svetlana
