Russia: Beer Is Not Alcohol?

Dear Customers!
We apologize for the TEMPORARY lack of alcohol in our store!

Уважаемые покупатели!
Приносим свои извинения за ВРЕМЕННОЕ отсутствие алкогольных напитков в нашем магазине.

In Russia beer is not considered alcohol, So of course you do not get drunk drinking beer? (sounds like a bunch of people I knew in America!)

So the sign points out the fact that they do not have hard liquor at the store, (whiskey & Vodka)!

The beer is the same as Coke & Pepsi, just that beer is better for you :) ......wrong :(

My wife and I do not drink so we always find things like this strange.

Kyle & Svet

Hahaha... I love that beer is regarded as a soft drink, especially when you can get something like Baltika 9 or Okhota Krepkoe that really pack a punch!

Your photos are great - one can never go past a perfect moment of delicious irony! Especially when (and do you remember this?) the new law about no drinking in outdoor public places (streets, parks, etc) came into effect on April 1, 2005? I think everyone in SPb was out on the streets with a drink in hand just to celebrate this April Fool's Day measure!

Thanks also for reminding me too about the Никогда не разговаривайте с незнакомцами - it's something I always forget! Or I just can't help it! And I always seem to run into the strangest of strangers (speaking of beer not being alcohol!)

Your post is very interesting, Europe Trotter! Thank you for the link! :)))

As for "Никогда не разговаривайте с незнакомцами" that is not too easy to follow especially if you are by yourself and everything seems very interesting! Once (long long time ago) I met an old man in Riga (Latvia) and he brought me into several museums and told very interesting, he was a veteran of WW2. It was interesting for him and interesting for me... and we said Good Bye to each other after this excursion. Sometimes it's very interesting to talk to strangers in strange place... So I really understand you very well! ;)

Best wishes and
nice strangers to talk,
Svet and Kyle

Hi Svet & Kyle!
Actually, this post has got my thinking about my own April Fools Day post... would you mind if I used a copy of your second photo (the wide/landscape one) in my own post & linked it back to you? Is that ok?

Cheers,
Bettina

Thanks very much - I'll let you know when it's up (but it'll be April 1st - that much is certain!)
