USA Inflation Higher Than Russia? Ouch!

U.S. Outpaced Russia in June Inflation

The United States was ahead of Russia in inflation in June. There, the consumer prices surged 1.1 percent, while Russia had 1.0 percent. Nevertheless, Ukraine is the absolute leader in inflation acceleration, Russia’s statistics authority Rosstat reported with reference to Eurostat and national statistics services.

Russia says Zimbabwe talks show sanctions are not needed

Russia, which blocked UN sanctions against Zimbabwe's regime, believes the start of talks between the government and the opposition justify Moscow's veto, President Dmitry Medvedev said on Tuesday.

Sorry I don't agree with this one. Zimbabwe is a regime a bit like Pol Pot. Vote for Mugabe or die -whether through torture or starvation or disease is irrelevant.

Whether the EU or Russia or South Africa, I am vehemently opposed to negotiations with that evil man. If he had oil, the US would have invaded long ago, but I guess the West is not too worried about his diamonds and other minor minerals at the moment. You cannot negotiate with a country that has 15million% annual inflation - even Zim's Finance Minister says its approx 2mill% (in context, prices double every hour!!!!!!!). Not sure how much coverage you get in Russia, but as a former colony we get plenty here, and surprisingly balanced, but there are a huge amount of very disfigured, tortured exiles and asylum seekers in the UK from Zimbabwe.

Mugabe needs to face a genocide case in an international court - the Serbs have nothing in comparison with Mugabe, who I would compare to Stalin in the desire to ruthlessly exterminate anyone opposed to his regime - for many even NOT voting is a reason for imprisonment, even to the extent that not going to an election victory part is a beating offence.

Russia was wrong to oppose sanctions (I don't necessarily believe that sanctions would have worked - but I do believe no moral country should consider doing business with Zanu PF) and negotiating with Mugabe is pointless, as I am sure we will see. The so called opposition that negotiated this deal will be dispensed with long before the next elections are due

Hey Matt,

Thanks for the good information. As you pointed out the press here is much different.

We will have to see what comes of this latest information of talks between the government and the opposition in Zimbabwe!

Seems that Medvedev has his thoughts that he is following and is very positive about his feelings. Russia is making huge strides pushing politically and monetarily into Africa.

Thanks for stopping by and giving more information about the subject.

Kyle
