"What happened on the night of August 7 is beyond comprehension," Gorbachev said in an article The Guardian published on Wednesday. "The Georgian military attacked the South Ossetian capital of Tskhinvali with multiple rocket launchers designed to devastate large areas."
"Russia had to respond. To accuse it of aggression against 'small, defenseless Georgia' is not just hypocritical but shows a lack of humanity," he said in the article.

Mikhail Gorbachev: Said, "Russia had No Choice!"

2 Comments:
I find it hard to believe that bombing Georgia itself was a just response. How many people live in Georgia? War is always a choice. To say Russia (i.e., Putin) had no choice is ludicrous.
Georgia would not have stopped bombing South Ossetia. They were killing women and children. If no one had stepped in they would have simply tried to kill any and all they could of the South Ossetians. Russia did not enter South Ossetia until almost 20 hours to late.
Sad what Georgia did to the South Ossetians!
