At first it seemed unstable, and bouncy. But after a few flights, calibrating the trim, and then pressing the “steroids button”… WOOOOOO! This little thing can fly! The GPTOYS SPACE TREK Nano is… nano, measuring 6cm from rotor to rotor. It’s made of plastic, and comes with 4 extra blades. The blades can be pulled off by hand, which is handy when hair gets in them. The blade guard can also be removed. On the front bottom there are green LEDs, blue on the back, and a white headlight on the front. The battery lasts about 7 minutes and recharges in 30, and the LEDs start blinking 30 seconds before it’s drained. There is a power switch on the quad, and the battery doesn’t need to be reconnected, nor can it easily be swapped.
* PERFORMANCE
The mini controller has has 2 joysticks, 4 trim buttons, a flip button, and two speed settings. The thumb sticks are VERY sensitive, like 3x more sensitive than a medium sized syma-like quadcopter. But they are comfortable on the thumbs, hand have grips. There is auto level on the yaw, pitch, and roll, meaning if let go of the thumb stick, the quad will stop moving in those directions. The range is about 35 meters.
On low speed, he quad is pretty stable, but a little more bouncy than a mid sized quad, but it’s not hard to keep it level and hover for several seconds. On high mode the sticks become even more sensitive, just moving them a hair has an effect. It’s hard to turn it while moving forward on high because the rotation is too sensitive, so I usually just stick to moving it back-forth/side-side. On low speed its good though. On high, the acceleration is almost instant. I can go from one side of the room to the other in a second. It can climb extremely fast, just a couple seconds to reach it’s max altitude. If you let it drop from just several feet up, pushing the throttle to full stops it from hitting the ground. If it goes out of range, it will disconnect and drop, but as soon as it comes back in range it reconnects. It’s fun to fly it up as high as possible, let it drop then bounce back up again. There is also a flip function.
* DURABILITY
The durability is great. I’ve crashed this thing countless times. I also took off the blade guards, and they also seem strong, none have broken yet but I imagine they would against a hard object.
* BATTERY
The 100mah battery life is about 5-7 minutes and recharges in 30 minutes. It is enclosed within the quad that is held together with 4 screws, so it wouldn’t be feasible to use extra batteries with it. The controller takes 2 AAAs (no included).
* CONCLUSION
It took a bit to get used to the high sensitivity and fine movement of the thumb sticks, but this has become a pretty fun quad to fly indoor and outside. Wouldn’t change much about it except reducing the rotation speed sensitivity on high mode. Sample provided for testing and review.
The instruction manual is also really fine print, to use the TRIM function, the LL button moves it left. LR moves it right. RR moves it forward. RL Moves it backwards.
